The Center for Risk Reduction Programs

Hartford Youth Project
The Hartford Youth Project works with adolescents between the ages of 10 to 17 who struggle with substance abuse problems. The project collaborates with schools, detention centers, child protective services, youth on probation, children’s mental health system and alternative schools. We also focus on youth in shelters or those who are homeless. The project provides early identification of youth in need of substance abuse treatment; links to programs; education to parents, community leaders, schools about substance abuse among teens and information about new treatment approaches.

Orgullo provides HIV prevention services to Latino men who have sex with other men. Through culturally sensitive care and support, the program aims to reduce new HIV infections among gay, bisexual and transgendered people. We offer individual counseling, support groups and prevention workshops for adults. We also assess our participants’ need for other health interventions such as tuberculosis and HIV testing; and we make referrals when necessary. Orgullo offers emotional support for people living with HIV/AIDS and their families. We do community outreach in bars and cruising areas; and through announcements in the press.
