The
Center for Community Nutrition
The
goal of the Center for Community Nutrition is to improve
the nutritional
well being of low income community members.
The Center provides a wide range of nutrition programs
that use culturally tailored social marketing strategies
to reach individuals and thousands of families through
schools, community centers and other settings. The center
integrates research, direct service, training and advocacy.
The Hispanic Health Council (HHC) has since its inception*
worked to address the wide range of nutrition-related problems
that affect our community. Early efforts included: integration
of nutrition education into HHC’s pioneering “Comadrona
Program” (prenatal case management); provision of
a nutrition education training program to community volunteers;
launching of the “Breastfeeding: Heritage and Pride
Peer Counseling Program”, offering a unique model
of clinical and community-based services; and providing
leadership in city and statewide anti-hunger and food security
advocacy efforts.
