Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection

The HHC has conducted cancer early detection efforts formally since 1995. The program is designed to raise awareness about the importance of early detection; educate about breast self exam and other early detection practices; and provide case management services designed to eliminate barriers to successful use of mammogram and other early detection screening services. Specific activities include: case finding through street and door-to-door outreach, health fairs, networking in stores and workplaces and group presentations and media announcements.


Latina Cancer Support Group

This support group, named DIVAS, is the only Spanish-language support group in Connecticut. Developed in response to requests from patients and providers, DIVAS is a hybrid that combines group and individual support to meet the varied needs of impoverished Latinas with multiple health and psychosocial concerns. The program offers emotional support; stress management training; and relevant updated information on cancer treatment.
