The Center For Youth and Families

Young VIDA (Voices In Direct Action) : After school program in which the youth are shown fundamental techniques to target tobacco and alcohol companies and community store owners for mass distribution and advertisement geared towards the youth in low income communities such as Hartford. This program is based on youth empowerment and community organizing curriculums.

Discovering Hartford : Provides weekly recreational activities focused around exploring the architecture and history of Hartford. The Youth receive hands on experience that creates excitement about research and learning outside the academic setting.

Perlas: A unique and innovative program only for young Latinas ages 14-20 that are self identified as engaged in intimate heterosexual behaviors. This program offers a combination of HIV knowledge, training in social and behavioral skill and the knowledge of norms to apply risk reduction strategies. Poetry, music, art, and self expression is used to gain knowledge and pride in their culture and used to gain a sense of self confidence along with knowledge about safer sex practices.


Recreational Club: This program aims to integrate art, history and other subjects to create a multi-sensory learning experience with the purpose of offering youth the opportunity to learn about society at large, the city they live in, the community they belong to and most importantly about who they are.
