This year's social marketing campaign focused on two themes:

  1. Food Safety
  2. Food Access.
 

 

FOOD SAFETY
FIGHT BAC!

 

 

FIGHT BAC! Radio PSAs

240 bilingual (English/Spanish) radio PSAs were broadcasted by Latino 1230 WLAT. This popular Latino radio station reaches an average of 50,000 Hispanics in the Greater Hartford area. The PSA contained relevant information about food safety.

 

 

FIGHT BAC! T.V. Ads

During 6 months, 570 T.V. ads were broadcasted in prime time by the Latino T.V. station Telemundo. The T.V. ad promoted the USDA FIGHT BAC! campaign 4 steps to prevent food from being contaminated.

 

   
 

FIGHT BAC! Newspaper Ads

10 newspaper ads were published in "El Extra News." This popular Latino newspaper is distributed two times per month throughout the Greater Hartford area and the cities of New Britain, Waterbury, Willimantic, New Haven, and Bridgeport.

 

   
 

FIGHT BAC! Stickers, Brochures and Posters

A total of 16,558 Fight BAC stickers, 6,500 Spanish brochures, 3,843 English brochures and 29 posters were distributed to community agencies, hospitals/clinics, supermarkets, convenience stores, schools, day-care centers, health fairs and restaurants in the area of Hartford.

   

 

FOOD ACCESS

 

   
 

FOOD ACCESS Radio PSAs

150 radio PSAs were broadcasted by Latino 1230 WLAT. This popular Latino radio station reaches an average of 50,000 Hispanics in the Greater Hartford area. The PSA promoted the redemption of food vouchers among WIC participants at the farmers' markets in Hartford, Connecticut.

   

 

FOOD ACCESS Bus Signs

During 4 months, 30 Connecticut Transit buses circulated throughout the Greater Hartford area displaying FOOD ACCESS bus billboards. These billboard messages were developed and distributed in conjunction with the Connecticut Association for Human Services (CAHS). They provided information on how to access food stamps and nutrition education.

 

   
 

FOOD ACCESS Bus Stop Shelters

For over 3 months, FOOD ACCESS posters were displayed in 4 bus stop shelters strategically located within Hartford's Latino neighborhoods.

   

 

 

 

FOOD ACCESS Newspaper Ads

FIGHT BAC! & FOOD ACCESS Evaluation

This year's social marketing efforts are being evaluated through the Nutrition KAB III (Knowledge, Attitudes, and Behavior) follow up study in 250 households in predominantly Latino neighborhoods in Hartford.
